How much did you exercise in 2012?
I have been using Daily Mile (feel free to friend me and let me know you came from my website) since July 2011 to track my exercise – mainly running and cycling. While the website doesn’t have much in the way of stats if you are a free member, it is very pretty which is what motivates me (and I would like to upgrade for more stats, I find that personally very motivating).
Here is my 2011 end of year report, the numbers are total kms covered:
As revealed in my Challenge Revealed post, I am making video letters to my sister in the US of A. The last one was about Christmas and cats, this one is about New Years and cats. I sense a pattern emerging. I also managed not to rock on my chair this time.Read More
In 2012 I read 40 books, and I have to say that most of my favourite reads of 2012 were re-reads of old favourites. Here, however, I will post about my top 5 new books I read. They weren’t necessarily new books published in 2012, but were new books to me that I read for the first time in 2012. You can check out all the books I read in 2012 at goodreads.
1. The Price of Spring by Daniel Abraham
This is book four of the Long Price Quartet. It is telling, but for a lot of series this year, including some on this list, I enjoyed the final book the best. The series starts with A Shadow in Summer, and it started off good, and by the end was great. The world is medieval Asian inspired, where we follow Otah and Maati through their lives. This series is a must read, and I believe I will follow anything that Daniel Abraham writes.
My knee hurts from running. Sad face. I’ve been doing some research on how to make my knee better, and I thought I would sum up my research here. I am no doctor, but this is what I understand after browsing heaps of websites that may or may not have been written by doctors. So take what I say with a grain of salt.
First things first, my knee injury is Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, or PFPS, although it is known as other things as well. It basically means “my knee cap hurts”. It seems that no one knows the cause for it, but it happens a lot to people who run or play jumping sports. It also seems to happen more to women because of their wider hips. Most places say it is caused from weak leg muscles, bad form when running, or over-training (which is most likely what happened to me – I got new shoes, suddenly I could run well, and so I ran more. Way more).

You can read the blurb of books everywhere. I have decided to try and write what these books are about in 140 characters or less….
Theo is supposedly not pretty. James, who grew up with her, marries her for money. He becomes a pirate. The romance is boring
(125 characters) This review is spoiler free… Sorry if the pirate bit was a surprise.Read More
I hope everyone is having a great holiday period!
I wasn’t originally going to start my Challenge 2013 until 2013, but I started early. The Challenge 2013 is to keep in better contact with my sister who lives in the USA… via video.
Here is my first attempt. I can only take solace in the fact that these will get better. And so I present my Christmas time video, all about cats.Read More
- Update phone more regularly, otherwise you may be subjected to hours upon hours of updates.
- Websites can get very slow with out of date themes… Hmmm, this is the same lesson as the previous one. Update!
- This lesson I haven’t learnt yet; I have 3.5 pimples on my chin. One is known as the pimple formally known as Carlie’s second head. Why? Why is there a pimple party on my chin?
- No matter how hard you wish, broken washing machines don’t un-break themselves. And that those things cost money and Christmas is not a good time of year to have broken things because you are already poor.
In other news, regarding my last post where I ponder a challenge for 2013, the challenge has been created and will be executed in the new year. Others not might find my challenge exciting, although I do. No matter what your thoughts, it will be challenging. And it will remain a secret until the new year. I hope I can complete the challenge…Read More
