I'm really loving your site, despite finding it purely by accident. ^^

I've heard a lot of good things about Japanese For Everyone and am thinking about purchasing it as well. I think what's holding me back is the lack of audio tapes. How did you manage to progress so far without them?

Keep up the good work!

Atreya - I recommend going to sentences. You can learn new words that way while reinforcing grammar. I mean, you don't go up to someone and say "deodorant" do you? This way you can learn the ways words are used, in what types of sentences.

As for definitions, I am trying to go Japanese, but for a lot of it I am still in english mode. Some sentences I have access to I don't have direct English translations. In these, I usually have definitions of words I might get stuck on and a little note about the grammar point I was trying to make.

At my old web host I did have a copy of my anki file up, but at the moment I wont until the end of uni semester, I have too much work to do!

Hey Carlie

You've mentioned Anki a few times and I'd checked it out a while back and thought it a bit awkward. I don't know if it has been updated or whether my approach has changed, but I downloaded it again last night and I'm really in to it. It's just so well put together. Thanks for (repeatedly) bringing it to my attention.

I've been enjoying KanjiBox on fb quite a lot too - perhaps that is why Anki was more appealing this time round (that or the hopelessness I felt in Japan since I knew the way the sentences were working, but just didn't have enough words at my disposal to understand what was being said).

Wow nice progress! I am still stuck at the level where I just grind more vocabulary in my head. Haven't moved on to sentencing grinding yet, just don't know how to approach it. So how is your new anki deck structured? Just curious, and do you use English or Japanese definitions for the new vocabulary that you learn.
