I’m So Famous TBS Knows Me

On the 23rd of October, 2007, I recieved the following email from TBS, the Japanese TV station:

TBSコンテンツ&ライツセンター (email removed) wrote:

I read this as:

Your home page….. Utahime, Yamada Taro, Papa to Musume, Dragon Zakura, Kimi wa Petto… あの… えと…

I’m sure I could read a bit more than that, but when presented with a heap of text like this, I get nervous. Various translators provided me with a basic idea of what was said, and of course it’s not hard to guess, but I thought I should ask for confirmation:

Dear Ms. Carlie

This is a warning from Tokyo Broadcasting System, Inc. (“TBS”).

It has been brought to our attention that web pages at goddesscarlie.com display, without authorization, some reproduced pictures made from the television program, “Uta-hime ”, “Yamada Taro Monogatari ”, “Papa to Musume no Nanokakan ”, “Dragon-Zakura” and “Kimi wa Pet “ owned by TBS.
Accordingly, please remove the unauthorized reproductions of TBS copyrighted programs on goddesscarlie.com and on all web pages under your control. Although we know your web site aim for introducing Japanese culture and drama for learning Japanese, uploading unauthorized reproductions is illegal act. And if you want to upload these reproductions, do not forget that you have to ask not only us but also other rightful claimants (actors, actresses,
for example) permission to uploading them.

We look forward to hearing from you and resolving this matter immediately.

And as such, I have been requested and will comply with such request. I am very sad however. This website started as a way for me to record my thoughts on various Japanese media as well as my journey in learning Japanese. It has been a delight to share my thoughts with others and getting excited with others about upcoming tv shows and the like. I also would love to go onto a long rant about how images, etc, actually promote shows and generate more money than they would ordinarily be getting, however something similar has just been addressed on Nekonron’s blog here and here, and I couldn’t be bothered getting into it right now.

To sum up, I’m sad, disappointed that it has come to this, but I will comply to TBS’s request and over the next couple of days I will be taking down pictures related to these shows. And comfort myself in the thought that I’m so well known that Japanese TV Stations can find me through search engines.
